Pawns Poem by Ray Hansell

Pawns

So many people sacrifice
So many things in life
So many people live each day
With so much daily strife

Can they pay the rent next month
Will the car payment be made
So many people struggling
Many more are just afraid

Will they lose their home
Than end up on the street
Some find it impossible
To even make ends meet

The politicians speak of the middle class
Struggling to survive
Well I've got some breaking news for them
The middle class is no longer alive

The politicians will have you believe
The middle class is alive and well
But politicians are so far out of touch
That even they cannot even tell

They say that they want to help
The struggling middle class
This is just politicians talking
So, they can all kiss my - -

They speak out of both sides of their mouth
Saying, they are not to blame
But we all know the truth
We're just the pawns in their chess game
