Passed Away Poem by Jerry Pike

Passed Away

Passed Away

And all that was are gone and passed away,
corruption dealt its hand and played to win,
you were that once upon a time I know,
and taught me from a hindered mind within.

Strange things shrugged off into the pit of life,
we know just what we get as simple chords,
that ring those chiming bells between our games,
and laugh into our faces with their swords.

I learned as any would, and fastened tight,
onto the street that fed me with its truth,
you pulled me home by thoughts and future dreams,
and veils that covered threats to stain my youth.

I see it all now, hands wring and salute,
a grave attention ran and spoke no words,
and we could just look up and ponder on
as to the heavens god freed up his birds.

You left unfinished, guesswork quilts to patch,
and at this stage the question colours stay,
for you were you, and I, I had my voice,
but all that now is gone and passed away.
