Paper Trail Poem by Rob Knetsch

Paper Trail

it is late
and not home yet
walking here
in the dark
with faint moonlight

you would've been lost
if there weren't those
little pieces of paper
showing you the way
the way out of here

you have no idea
who left the paper
on this path
for you to find
your way home

as you follow this
trail of paper
the pieces get bigger
after a while
you can see the ink

the ink becomes
shaped into letters
words, sentences
pages filled with them
lined up in one direction

as you turn
to the last page
just before the end
you read the last words
at home
