Panaghoy (English 'Wailing') Poem by Marites C. Cayetano

Panaghoy (English 'Wailing')

What's the use
of having all the riches in the world
if there is no one
to share it with.

What's the use
of attaining the highest honor
if there is no one
I can offer to.

What's the use
of having a golden voice
if no one
listens to it.

What's the use
of all my poems
if no one
recites them.

What's the use
of having you beside me
if your heart cries
for other love.

What's the use
of living
if my worth is just like the wind
that no one sees it.

Oh, god of all gods
why have you created me
if all you do
is keep me wailing.
