Paintbrush (Inspired By: Bettie B. Youngs) Poem by Ethan Grimes

Paintbrush (Inspired By: Bettie B. Youngs)

I keep my paintbrush with me
For a few certain situations
It helps me keep my life on track
And protect my limitations

I'm so afraid to show you me
Afraid of how it will go
But I hope that you would treat me the same
I'm scared and I know it shows

I'd like to remove all my coats
To show you who I am
I really hope you will understand
That I am unique like a ram

So, if you'll be patient and close your eyes
I'll show you the real me
I need you to understand
And try to accept what you see

Now my coats are all stripped off
I feel weird, insecure, and cold
And if you can accept what you see
You are a friend, pure as gold

I need to keep my paintbrush though
And keep it by my side
So, I can show all of the world
That I truly tried

So please protect me my dear friend
And thanks for loving me like you do
But let me keep my paintbrush with me
Until I love me too.
