Our Beloved Blanket Snatcher Poem by Toshie Nohara

Our Beloved Blanket Snatcher

To awake in the morning
Alarm clock is the norm most
people rely upon
But grandma at seventy
So amazing
Could set her 'biological clock' at 5: 3o by
focusing her mind to be
up and about before the glorious sun rises
Her reason to dress her long
black hair to a bun-shape
That finished, to the children's bedroom she
would go
To snatch their blankets at six as promised
Too cold and sleepy to open our
tired eyes
We rolled to the other side to sleep a
little longer
No way ever- -so sad
Grandma an intelligent disciplinarian would
remind us
'Time For Study- Your Exams today
Get up or you would be late for school'
Her voice thundering into our
POOR ears!

Grandma passed away at ninety-four
If she were alive today
would be a hundred and forty
Memory of our beloved blanket snatcher touched
our heart deeply
She was our 'natural alarm clock'
We thank her for her marvellous awakening
Without her, we wouldn't be who we
are today
We are forever grateful grandma.
