Orbis Poem by Luke Hobbs

Orbis

I remember when the stars
did not move,
did not follow,
did not gaze back with intent

I remember when photos were to commemorate,
not to capture,
not to control,
not to interrogate

I remember when walls were built
to keep threats out,
not people in

I remember when you could find lights in the sky
the city could not call its own,
now the hum and glow will stalk you
up the coast and into the woods,
the towers that we built
to reach the sky
have taught them this art,
to hunt, to lay in wait,
they should not have been made,
to see so far, so much,
raised up before their time,
they have become gods,
they must be stopped
