Only One Fight Poem by Francis Duggan

Only One Fight

Only one fight worth fighting the fight for to live on
Though the tiny voice within you says your better days long gone
You are not as strong as you once were and you cannot run as fast
Still the future's all that matter one can't live in the past.

Only one fight worth fighting the fight for to survive
Though of those you went to school with not many now alive
In life than you seen as more successful but you are still around
And with the dear departed their names now to be found.

Only one fight worth fighting the fight to live another day
Though you feel tired and sickly and the strength from you ebbing away
There may not be a life hereafter any dead woman or dead man
Have not come back to tell us so live long as you can.

Only one fight worth fighting the fight for to live on
Though many of those you went to school with to the Reaper now have gone
And of the life hereafter and of Heaven and Hell
You must make your own mind up for none have come back of such to tell.
