One That Got Away Poem by Johnny Monroe

One That Got Away

Rating: 4.5

Hope is gone
I try to be strong
But it feels so wrong
to let it all go
Now a storm blows
in
and I know
we will never begin again

I look back to before the end
to the tantalizing past
memories fade so fast
and nothing good ever really lasts

we all wind up cold and alone
waiting for that email
or answer on the phone
that will never come
praying that the one that got away
will look back and run

to where you've always lain in wait.

I know, and recognize the pain you have scripted here, so well. I again, invite you in, to read one of my poems, Once Tossed, The Ripple Caused, that perhaps, bleeds from the same vein..I will venture further into your catalogue....anticipating fine works. PEACE

This really touched my heart. I can feel the mellow tone of your voice in this poem, and I think that's what I love most about it. I was questioning it in the beginning, but as soon as I read I look back to before the end / to the tantalizing past / memories fade so fast / and nothing good ever really lasts, you had me. This stanza contains so much emotion... it's incredible. That's what I look for when I read poems. Fantastic job! Keep it up.
