Once Bitten, Twice Wise! Poem by Vyktor Ekott

Once Bitten, Twice Wise!

Slowly, she walked in looking confused
Praying and waiting for answers to be fused
She wasn’t scheming, she knew she was used
How did she ever allow herself to be abused?

It wasn’t to end, when the next one came
Asking for her precious time, later her name
Promising her that things will never be the same
But she knew from experience that it was all a game.

She wanted to share her experience, but thought ‘No’
She relaxed while he wasted his time and poor soul
He went on and on, presenting his manifesto
She was bored and tired, and was dying to go.

She couldn’t help thinking how convincing ‘they’ could be
She knew their ploy, and how wicked they could be
She was watching him with eyes that could hardly see
And was dying to make him know she still had the key.

Within her, she was longing to have a life-long lover
But she knew her emotional story was long over
To play along, she said “Yes I’d turn your lover
Though she knew her heart was vengefully covered.
