Once-A-Year Fun Poem by Joyce Hemsley

Once-A-Year Fun

Precious family of mine, how I love you.
I think of coastlines where cool winds blow
Where every summer we'd put on the show
Favourite location, and away we would go
In our Ford Zephyr Six, emerald green!
Trusting in fate, arriving at the scene.
Uninvited - we'd visit relatives and friends
And a gift we would offer to make amends,
As the 'once-a-year' visit came to an end.

Memories linger on, of pleasures and joys
Long ago snapshots, and cases of toys
Father and mother - one girl and two boys
'Twas utter delight in the hotel at night,
Revelling and dancing; cuisine just right!
I hope you recall the magic of it all.
Exotic places and sweet youthful faces
Sunburnt, windblown, what did it matter?
It was 'once-a-year' fun, holiday in the sun.
