Older? Older Than What? Poem by Chuy Amante

Older? Older Than What?

A relative adjective
like OLDER
makes one ponder,
is it defined by the beholder?

My dad was older than the trees
in my lush forest garden

Grandma said she was older than dirt!
Older than my compost soil for sure

I am older than my babies

My daughters are older than my sons

Let's all celebrate being older than
the newness of each breath
and the fact we haven't
experienced death

Life is older than death,
so with that thought,
let's take a deep breath

and LIVE NOW and well
each moment smiling
each heartbeat swell!
