Ode To Victor Hugo (31) 'the Miserable' a Paradise In Shadow

For several years prior to his death
Bishop Mariel had been blind
But content in his blindness
Having his sister at his side
She gave him all her time
And her attendance,
Because he had all her heart
The supreme happiness in life
is in being loved, with assurance
There can be no blindness
where there is such cetrainty
And assurance.
Soul gropes for soul and finds it
A hand sustains you and it is hers
Lips touch your forehead, and they are hers
To be never left in solitude
To have support of that gentle frailty
That slender unbreakable reed
To feel the toch of Providence
in her hands
A palpable God
And one would not exchange
one's Darkness for all light.
Her warmth made him radiant
and delighted in his Darkness!
