Not On The Same Boat Actually.... Poem by RIC BASTASA

Not On The Same Boat Actually....

Rating: 5.0

it is easy to read the numbers
of those who perished while you are
eating your breakfast at home
watching the news, and happily talking
to the members of your family,

even if the numbers of the fatalities rise,
you seem unaffected, and that sense of
empathy is a stranger in the house, as
everything still moves normally:

fresh flowers add delight to the shiny
furniture in the sala, by the window the
bird house is visited by sparrows,
in the yard the flowers are blooming
as the early morning sun spreads all
that is golden in the grass and the
trees,

they say that we are not riding on the
same boat, we are simply having the same
ocean, the same storm but while others
are cruising, some are cursing, while
others are enjoying their buffet and shows,
others are sinking and dying and then gone.
