Nonsense Poem by Vonnie Postit

Nonsense

Rating: 2.5

you would have liked the weather today.
as kind as you are, you like a
kind of cold that is unforgiving.
not that you'd think it's cold,
only....
wait i'm so sick of talking about the weather
i never talk about how it feels
between my toes
or what it feels to get a pat
on the head by the sun
i write too many love poems
i doubt anyone can keep up
i certainly can't

maybe i should just study the characters
and take a vow of silence
letting the wind speak for me
or the clouds in Beijing on a polluted day;

keep my work as my creator and life coach,
take a vow to keep my words small
and my hair long for
i am too attached to umbrellas.

i don't know how i never noticed how
life giving nonsense can be
like rain or creeping mosquitos
whispering lessons in my ear; keeping me
from sleep.

i have hairy toes.
i masturbated for the first time at 21.
i'm the protagonist of a movie i wouldn't watch
i am dramatic and queer
i use everyone, including shame herself;
my sadness is a titan,
stomping through cities,
making craters,
carving your name into
the palm of my hands,
and at the same time hoping you will get
picked up with the wind,

and in your pride, i hope you will drift
and collide with different titans.
ones that can
keep their vows and shoot arrows
with certainty, hitting the bullseye
out of respect for the greater plan.

i don't feel cold.
i am too full.
these words carry an umbrella of steel,
with a mouth like roses and thorns.
