Nocturnal Dances Poem by David Wood

Nocturnal Dances

Rating: 4.7

The night yawns and slowly wakes up as
A tired sun dips below the far horizon.
Behind soft grey clouds hides a pale
Crescent moon still drowsy as it
Looks down towards a dark world.

The peaceful moon silently reflects
Upon a troubled Earth. It looks down
Without comment or preconceptions,
Faithfully lighting the night sky.
Lakes shine in the iridescence of its
Lustrous silver glimmer.

Wild animals gently sleep in its glow,
And owls watch throughout the night,
Hooting in rhythm with nights pulse,
As other nocturnal creatures scurry
Here and dash there for food.

Occupants from weary houses sleep,
Resting from the day's monotonous
Languor. An oppressive stillness in the
Heat of the night lifts by the early dawn
As active chimneys signal breakfast.

The moon, now tired and needing rest,
Slips beneath the far horizon just as
An orange glow wakes nature with
Birdsong and the morning dew kisses
Sleepy grass with a gentle breeze.
