No More Noon Poem by Raymond Farrell

No More Noon

Time has not stood still
But many don't want noon
Anymore
The Sun and His
Brightness and guidance
They reject that
It tires them
To look at
Their deformities and ugliness
In the bright light
They no longer need
Nor want any guiding light
Because they are not collectively
Going anywhere together
There is comfort in darkness
The vague forms and shadows
Allow them to imagine
Their own reality
The moon
Casts just enough light
For them to stumble
Along
And not fall
There are times
When day appears
It is breaking
Again
But it is only an illusion
But they have no hope
So are never disappointed
When the darkness
Again expells the faint
Glow of light
On the horizon
As time passes
Fewer and fewer
Remain
Who remember
What it was like
To have basked
In the noonday light
And seen things
For what they really are
Very soon
All will be a footnote
In humanity's history
From darkness
To light
And back
Into darkness.
