Nina, Nia, Mia, Marisa Poem by Nia Schexnider

Nina, Nia, Mia, Marisa

Nina, Nia, Mia and Marisa were happy little frogs.

Happy to tap on lilly pads in their clogs.

Until one day they tapped too hard,

and one of them fell overboard.

'Oh No! ' shouted Nina and Nia.

'Too bad, so sad! ' snickered Mia.

They dove in after their youngest sister,

reached for her hand, but narrowly missed her.

'Take off the clogs! ' shouted momma from shore,

but they should have taken them off before.

Now all four little frogs began to sink down,

'Ay, yai, yai! They will surely drown! '

They sank quickly, but they did not drown.

Instead they went into the ground.

Do not worry my friend!

This is not the end!

Weighed by their clogs,

Begins the adventure of the little frogs,

Luckier than winning the lotto

They fell into a secret grotto!

'Is everyone all right? ' Nia asked and checked her sisters.

Marisa said, 'I'm ok except for these blisters.'

'Duh, but where are we? ' said Mia.

'It appears we fell into some sort of underwater cave, what do you think Nia? '

'Yes, Nina it appears so.'

Quietly Marisa whispered, 'We are alive but now where do we go? '

They looked around the poorly lit room,

and off in the distance they saw a broom.

They wadded up to shore, for they had landed in a lake,

They took a look around and did a double take,

They were surprised to find a path by the broom,

And with much doom and gloom,

they began to walk,

and they began to talk.

'I don't see a source of light' said Mia.

'Neither do I but it seems to be getting brighter' said Nia.

'How long do you think we will have to walk? ' said Nina.

Suddenly they heard, 'The names kubena'

They looked foreward and behind a boulder they saw a frog.

(A frog who was wearing only one clog!)

'Hello! ' said Marisa energetically.

'That's k-u-b-e-n-a' she said phonetically.

'Pleasure to meet you, ' smiled Nina,

'Do you know how to get out of here kubena? '

'I know a path but it is difficult, very difficult...' she trailed off.

'You have to walk a narrow ledge, by a wide trough.'

'One Hundred feet you will fall'

'Just one mistake will cost you all'

They looked at one another,

and thought about their poor mother.

'We must do what we must do is our motto'

'We must escape from this grotto! '

Nina, Mia and Marisa nodded in agreement.

but kubena shook her head in disagreement.

'You can not make it you should not try'

'We must get home! Or our momma will cry! '

Finally kubena said, 'I will show you were to begin.'

'But I warn you you may not win.'

She pointed to a staircase off in the distance, carved into the stone wall.

'Good luck my friends, do not fall'

The sisters hopped along,

Happily they began to sing a song.

They clogged their way up the stairs.

But stopped to look at a sign that warned of bears.

They proceeded very slow,

Not wanting to fall as you know.

They edged their way upward along the cliff.

Then one of them got a wiff.

'I smell flowers! ' Nina shouted.

Mia looked around and as she scouted,

She lost her footing.

But Marisa saw and in one quick swing,

she smacked her hard.

'Gee, way to stay on guard! '

Mia was not happy and growled at her.

'Sorry but you would have fell for sure! '

'blah, blah for sure! ' Mia mimmicked then with a smile she said.

'I'm gonna slap you in the head! '

'Save it! ' Nia exclaimed, 'I see a hole up ahead! '

'There it is just like kubena said! '

The little frogs clambered out.

When they saw the sun they had to shout.

'Horray! Horray! We made it! We made it! '

'Good, I can't wait to eat I'm starved! I want a banana split! '

Nina, Mia and Marisa looked at Nia astonished at her hunger,

'We just ate like an hour ago! Didn't you bring a stash you little monger! '

'Fine I'll wait for dinner! '

'Not like I could afford to get any thinner! '

They all laughed at that thought...
