New Zealand Punches Above Its Weight Poem by Terence George Craddock

New Zealand Punches Above Its Weight

Rating: 5.0

New Zealand awards
New Zealander of the year
this year fixates upon athletes
a body with muscles but no mind...

and the New Zealander of the Year
not New Zealand Sports Person of the Year
must be an All Black a golfer a cricketer
a good sport must lead the country...

in a country which self proclaims
it punches above its own weight limit
the question is does it punch at shadows...

or is it punch drunk?
all sport and no art
makes for an artless state?
