Never Good Enough Poem by Christopher J. Grasso

Never Good Enough

Don’t finish in second place for we wouldn’t want you around
As much as I want you to listen, I might as well not make a sound
You project yourselves onto me, it does not matter what I want you have found
You know the shell of me, blank, you make me breathe while I drown

I am here for you to shove me down
I am not like you which makes you frown
Made from you but not significantly bound
To your beliefs that I could be better than this… me

On film, I’ve always tried to play the good son
But he grew up and you hate it now he’s on the run
No matter if you think that I am not the next great one
This is how I made my life - my own way so its done

I am here for you to shove me down
I am not like you which makes you frown
Made from you but not significantly bound
To your beliefs that I could be better than this… me

Your own flesh and blood but you’ve told me I’m a bum
A disappointment that you deny while I just can’t live up from
But you’ve lost the ability for pleasure or for anything else fun
Drag me into the mud when I don’t agree,
With everything you perceive is worthy under the sun

I am here for you to shove me down
I am not like you which makes you frown
Made from you but not significantly bound
To your beliefs that I could be better than this… me

The worst is when you refuse to walk in my shoes
Its so easy to play the blame game telling me I have to pay my dues
But God forbid I hold back just a tiny part of my own news
Because you can’t judge me unfairly, or tell me what the hell to do

I am here for you to shove me down
I am not like you which makes you frown
Made from you but not significantly bound
To your beliefs that I could be better than this… me
