Never Again Poem by Cindy Rheeder

Never Again

I’ve thrown myself to the wolves,
I’ve been torn apart and ravaged,
I’ve been discouraged and disdained,
I’ve fallen time and time again,
And every time I swear never again,
But each time I stumble,
As you lay your hazel gaze upon me,
But this time the heartache was too much to bear,
I’ve cried myself to sleep,
Tried correcting my haywire thoughts,
I’ve cried some more and wished I couldn’t feel anymore,
But then you just looked at me with amusement,
And I realized I’ve thrown myself to the wolves,
One too many times,
I’ve loved and I have lost,
I have laughed and I have cried,
My heart has died,
And as I walk away from the debris,
That you have bestowed on me for the last time,
I smile and know that I will survive,
Because I’ve thrown myself to the wolves,
I’ve been torn apart and ravaged,
I’ve been discouraged and disdained,
I’ve fallen time and time again,
And every time I swear never again,
And this time when you lay you hazel gaze upon me,
I will not stumble and I will not fall,
Because hearts are often broken,
By words left unspoken
