Nellie Poem by norman hale

Nellie

Rating: 4.5

Nellie

She was just a nurse
During World War Two
One of the talented ones
One of so very few

She saw more blood
Than most cops usually do
With a smile on her face
She proudly served her country too

She labored over so many soldiers
Each and every day
Bandaging them back up
For each of them she'd pray

Always a ray of hope
Bringing hope from dispair
To each one she served
Showing how much she cared

She had to struggle
To try and fit in
For she was just a lady
Among some selfish men

Then one day
A young soldier came in
With fresh bullet wounds
And a sheepish grin

They became friends
And soon it was much more
They were soon married
By the end of that war

They went back home
To a more peaceful life
Raise a few kids
Like a good husband and wife

She passed away
Just a few years ago
It was an honor to meet
Such a couragious soul

Now her husband
Sits there so much alone
Except for the kids and grand kids
Until they meet again next to Gods Throne

dedicated to Nellie Massie as well as her husband Jim
