Nature Of Things Poem by John Powers

Nature Of Things

Rating: 3.0

We went together
to a clearing in the woods
one night
She looked to me and said,
'The twinkling stars are beautiful! '
And I wanted to tell her
those lights may be long extinguished
but didn't.

We walked together
in a light rain
one afternoon
She looked to me and said,
'I love the smell of rain.'
And I wanted to tell her
that ozone is quite toxic,
but I didn't.

As we sat together
on a hill overlooking
the coast
She looked to me and said,
'Isn't the sunset beautiful? '
I just had to tell her,
'You know, it's not really there.'
'I know, ' she said,
'it's beautiful all the same.'

A beautiful picture of our mind, suspended between heart and reason.
