My Independence Depends Poem by Ima Ryma

My Independence Depends

To marriage counsellor we went.
My wife was very concerned that
On her I was too dependent,
'Specially in home habitat.
I disagreed with her of course.
Independent I thought I be.
But sure did not want a divorce,
So let the counsellor quiz me.
Independent choices did I
Oft make, the counsellor did ask.
I hesitated, not sure why
An answer not an easy task.

I looked over, I must confess,
To see if my wife nodded, 'Yes.'
