My Friend, The Scare Crow And Me. Poem by Palitha Ranatunge

My Friend, The Scare Crow And Me.

I met a friend at the edge of a ridge
Waving at the rumbling waves
Beneath the sea. The deep sea whale
Whistling water above his head
Circling for a catch. A big sea anemone
Dull with colour faded with time
Slept under the water visible to
The eyes of a gull. The gull and the seal
Mocked at the Walrus who aiming for
A meal for ages of this dull season of
No hunting or tress passing. The friend above
Is a scarecrow put up by a man by gone
For Ages. The lantern he used still oily but
Broken into pieces. The dark tide below
Humming a tune of eternity of life.
The tree huge and spread of an acre of land,
Bend his top paving the way for a soft gale
From the sea, showing its no desire for a
Conflict with the sea and sand,
The sand and gale and the whale
And the seal. My hut lit by a little torch
Made of fish tail, feels my favourite
Songs of slumbering isolation, die herself
Little by little inviting the thick darkness
To creep into my heart, my soul and my feet.
