My Cucumber Poem by Diana Rosser

My Cucumber

Rating: 5.0

During lockdown Lucy drove by
with a few plants for me to try
to grow outdoors in pots and tubs.
Not pretty flowers or green shrubs
but VEGETABLES; I will not lie

I took them with an eager eye.
With gratitude I said goodbye;
then grounded them with other loves
during lockdown.

A special one did make me sigh,
for more than once it tried to die
I tended it with softest gloves
until amongst the garden grubs
it blossomed beneath the blue sky
during lockdown.
