My Birthday Poem by Joyce Hemsley

My Birthday

Children's Poetry.

Sweet Jasmine called
'knock-knock' on my door,
gave me some earrings
and chocolates galore.
A pretty card she wrote
with writing so clear...
I was 'over the moon'
to have Jasmine here.

She brought her new toy
really meant for a boy!
two elderly dwarfs on a swing.
She played for a time
then said 'please say a rhyme
about two men on swing'.
I started to sing like
a bird on the wing.

Here is the rhyme,
fresh in its prime:

'Ding a ling, ding a ling
two old men on a swing
one man is green
a total 'has-been'
and one man is red
he's ready for bed...
so ding a ling ling
two men on a swing.
Now, let us sing.'

And oh the rapture
the joy and the laughter
on my birthday.
