My Addiction Poem by Doug Gunderson

My Addiction

A drunkard wants to taste every drink
A gambler hopes to make another bet
I yearn to see what I have not seen
Travel to where I have not been yet.
I want to see the southern sky
And to feel the outback’s sun,
To walk where penguins waddle round
And to stand where elephants run.
I want to stand on a mountaintop
And see my shadow up in a cloud.
To stand beside the Amazon
As it goes rushing by so loud.
Spend a few days in the midnight sun
Dancing with the northern lights,
Walk on top of an active volcano
With the lava burning so bright.
I’d like to visit Olduvai gorge
To see where mankind began.
Visit the city ruins of Ur
See Shinto temples in Japan.
Perhaps even journey out into space
See the whole world at one time
And then return myself once again
To a small house that I call mine.
So if you see me spinning a globe
I am just planning my next trip.
Trying to drink in the wonderful views
And I’m ready for my next sip.
