Morningstar Poem by Kenneth English

Morningstar

In the beginning, I sought hope.
Dragging myself upward through the chasm of my anguish,
A desperate clawing ascension.
My mind would squirm
With the temptations that were my torment.
From the serpents below to the wolves above,
The incessant plea of the crow
To the eyeless white worm-
All held a feral passion for my ruin.
For me hope was lacking,
And as my grip on the stone began to slip
The abyss moaned a fine opaque mist.
But in the midst of the brume
With undying love
One morningstar shined through.
Her presence of faith
Cast the light of reason upon
My burdensome taint,
And I awoke to find that we
Were one and the same.
