Monitored Poem by Marilyn Jean

Monitored

I am
Likely we are
The cage may be invisible
But it is real
Today I could feel
So, the birds are trapped
Checked and monitored
The table has turned
Even when no mistake was made
Even when what was taken back
Has not been given away again
Lying is not a part here
Yet
Freedom has spread so very thin
Thinner than butter on a warm toast
And this is why I cry
