Modern Slaves Are Not In Chains Poem by Daya Nandan

Modern Slaves Are Not In Chains

Modern slaves are not in chains,
Modern slaves have a different set of pains,
Modern slaves have white collar jobs we know,
Modern slaves are servants of the property they show,

Modern slaves spend their entire lives,
Working and suffering for the masters holding guns and knives,
Bills, mortgages and loans are pilling up,
Working constantly with each serving of coffee in a cup,

Banks and loan sharks are the kings of the game,
While the modern slaves often neglect loved ones without an ounce ofshame,
Disputes of property and wealth among families to survive this tough world,
A battle that will soon be faced by every boy and girl,

In a falling economy where jobs are scarce and most are underpaid,
Where cost of living is high due to mistakes leaders have made,
Modern slaves are trapped by their choice of lifestyle,
Modern slaves are bounded by their bills stacked in a giant pile,

Modern slaves are most of humanity in a nutshell,
Modern slavery is just another level of hell,
Modern slaves work until they bleed and sweat,
For modern slaves are not in chains but are trapped by debt!
