Men Not Gods Poem by Victor Adex

Men Not Gods

I see men dangling Upon the pikes
Of a sentence called life
Man treating her like a despicable imprisonment

And in prison good behaviour gets you paroled
Maybe that's why good people die early

Too often we pray to a god to pay our price
While we poise poignantly to proclaim the Prize
We trade the blame but save the fame
We share the pain but hoard the gain

This makes many wonder the need to do good
When the need to do good
When the best of your attempts
Will be nothing more than the
Frozen flames of smoking ice

When the best of your ability
Will be nothing more than
The fading whispers of beautiful memories

But the answer comes in the mouth of a sage saying
The only only condition for evil to prevail
Is for good men to do nothing
The only condition for evil to prevail
Is for good men to do nothing

In the end we would not remember
The voice of our enemies
But the silence of our friends
The echoes of the silence of our friends

So I bring you a tale from
Upon the coast of Thermopylae
300 men saved democracy
300 men saved us all
Soaking the sands with their sweats
Staining the seas the seas with their bloods
Spartans, all of them
They were men, not gods

The rising and falling of empires
The making and breaking of dynasties
The apexing and declining of anarchy
Has always rested on the shoulders of
Men, not Gods

Even God to save His own
From the penury of death and of hell
Though he sought and planned as God
He needed to act; needed to triumph
As man, not as god

Remember the Alamo
They were men not gods
For god and for country
They were men not gods
Viva la Revolution
They were men not gods
Black and proud
They were men not gods
We shall overcome
They were men not gods
Viva Africa
They were men not gods
Uhuru Soweto
There were men not gods
Those who need to bring back our girls
Are men, not gods

Gods may bless and gods may curse
But those who need to stand
For justice
To fight for peace and rightness
Will always be
Men, not gods

Upon the coast of Thermopylae
300 men saved democracy
300 men saved us all
Soaking the sands with their sweats
Staining the seas with their blood
They were the best of men
They were the worse of men
Spartans! !
All of them
They were………………………..MEN! ! !
