Memorial Poem by Joseph D E Phillips

Memorial

Remember the soldiers who died in battle
Forced by our leaders
Into cut-throats
Who shot open the bowels of fellow Man
All over the simmering sand
Mauling for money
Gutting for glory
Murdering for revenge.
Remember what they claimed to die for:
The freedom we already had
The freedom they snatched away from the men they
Blew to pieces.
Lay flowers before the graves of those
Who called themselves good
And their enemies evil.
Remember that the day they died
'Good' and evil differed from each other as
Liberty from life
Darkness from death.
Remember them,
Look upon the vast expanse of graves and witness what happens
when evil is repaid with evil.
