Meditation #20 Poem by Lane Morein

Meditation #20

my younger brother
the only sibling without problems
spared from mental illness or real turmoil
drove to town yesterday
he ate a meal with my mother
then left
in a hurry
calling to speak to me
as an after thought
and he asked how school was going
even though i had dropped out
when spring flowers began to bloom
i couldnt attend class
from a lock down psychiatric hospital
where i shot my bulimia right in the chest and reclaimed my pride
my sense of self
my own love and esteem
but he wasnt listening
to anything
