Medicine Poem by Matt Greenblatt

Medicine

Its purposes are scribbled down on doctors' scripts
Its meanings hidden in cryptic messages
Like take two daily only after eating
Though that full stomach offers little comfort
So store it in orange bottles with child-proof tops
Hide it behind the mirror until you over-dose
Or build up a tolerance, or both
Sell it out to religious types searching for purpose
Use the cash to buy narcotics
But even that falls short of satisfaction
It's subsidized production and perscription plans
Measured out in millegrams
Isomers and carbon bonds
Just chemistry and economics

A nice mix of poetic chemistry, Matt... good medicine! Brian
