Masters Of Navigation barnacle Goose (Branta Leaucopsis) Poem by john (called jack) wren

Masters Of Navigation barnacle Goose (Branta Leaucopsis)

Masters of the art of aviation
Formation flying and navigation,
With an ability to orienteer
To parts they find less austere
Coming, like the Viking hordes
To ravage and plunder greenswards
That lie in abundance on the Solway
Like the sparkling jewels of Faberge
Onward they come in purposeful flight
First to the left, then to the right,
Bickering, squabbling, lacking in poise,
These elegant perpetrators of noise
Bark excitingly as they pass over
A field of green, ripe for takeover.
Then, in bawling gregarious groups
They drop like marauding troops
To lay a claim on this foreign soil
For all its wares and all its spoil.
To live off all it does provide
Between each bounteous giving tide
And then as evening draws nigh
A lookout is kept, for those passing by
With keen eye and the fleetest of feet
And teeth to chew their tasty meat.
And those who like them, parade the sky,
With the speed of a bullet, and a sharp eye.
At both ends of their spectrum, life is hard
Lucky are those who remain unscarred.
