Manikin Poem by Scott Underwood

Manikin

Who do you pretend to love tonight, dear?
I can tell you about my manikin, if you want to hear.

I did it because she reminded me of you,
And she knew all too well that it was true

That even though she was nothing like you,
I wanted too badly to be reminded of you.

The sadness of a surrogate passion faded quickly.
Made me fall away from what I had decided to do.

I said, I will love you, girl.
And there is too much to love.

I gave you no reason to come back again,
But can you pretend to love me, dear?
