Lull Poem by Alejandro Torres

Lull

Feel a lull in my soul
Running out of those fancy words
You love so much
All I have left are the plain ones
The ones that don’t impress you much
The words that got me
Through life
Through losing you
I don’t know how
But they’ve saved me more times
Than your kisses
Than your hugs
Than that look you get
Gleaming in your eyes
When I turn to another
Wish we were every other thing
Than who we truly are
Then maybe it wouldn’t hurt
To not know this much
About you
About us
About whatever we find ourselves in
Try to be closer
Like you asked
And watch with a hint of confusion
As you back away
Never knew loving you
Would break what’s left
In this soul
