Lucy Departs Poem by Tom Billsborough

Lucy Departs

Rating: 5.0

Lucy now departs this life,
From a long dark tunnel into blinding light.
With trepidation but with faith and hope is borne aloft
To make her final journey in the waiting car.
Why did I linger on? Why wait? Why wait?
This is her guilt,
Not the fake marriage into which she was coerced.
But the betrayal of self for all those wasted years.
The door is open and Joanna
Waits to welcome her with smiles and tears
And Lucy yields at last to love,
At last obedient to her heart.

She wasn't called Lucy but we knew her and her partner for many years. They stayed together, Lucy or Rose to give her her true name was mad keen on cats, like me. She was a brilliant photographer (unlike me!) and highly intelligent. Her partner was called Irene. My wife and I christened Irene The Duchess of the Fylde (The Fylde is the area of NW England where we live. She was very theatrical and lady-like

You have such a broad world in your heart, Tom. No bias and discrimination is welcome there. Compassion and understanding dwells in your soul and sets them to winging in poems like these. Love this, my friend. 10+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
