Lovesong

Missing you
like I've been hit
and missing you
for years

in a doorway
somewhere between
the kitchen
and the laundry

missing the way
you tell me every day
I'm beautiful

putting a kiss
on my forehead
when I'm sick

and on my tongue
a sweet exotic tincture
with your tongue

we could call it
ha-ka-ta-ra-me-a

poet James Whitcomb Riley

There! little girl; don't cry!
They have broken your doll, I know;
And your tea-set blue,
And your play-house, too,
Are things of the long ago;
