You could offer me the wealth
Of a thousand years and more
Wrapped in a promise of love
And with a lifetime of passion
Sealed with honest surrender
And it would mean nothing
If my heart cannot respond
Likewise, or aver similarly

For love must love embrace
And her fervor reciprocated
Or else, it’s useless offering
And improvident declaration.
Love cannot bloom in bareness
Nor can it flourish in pretense
But when love in love embrace
Then twain hearts beat rhythmically
And in rhythmic announcement
To defy every other articulation
