Lost My Way Poem by Frederick Nellist

Lost My Way

I was once a winner but failed the test
I'm like a Cuckoo in a Robins nest
The future was never there to be seen
No guiding lights either red or green.

I've strayed where angels fear to tread
My whole life suspended on a thread
My friends are gone, all shooed away
A girl I loved but she wouldn't stay.

I've been told I'm on the road to hell
I'm all on my own so it's just as well
My way is paved with good intentions
I've broken promises, made abstentions.

I would like to live just one day more
To put things right, even up the score
For so very long I've let things lapse
Can I start over again, maybe, perhaps?
