Losing To Laryngitis Poem by Alice Anne Gordon

Losing To Laryngitis

What do I miss?
I cannot tell you what I’m thinking
I cannot say how I’m feeling
I can manage tears
but no sound
I cannot tell you the best way to do things
I cannot tell you where things are
But I can manage tears
Without sound

I miss not being able to talk jibberish nonsense
I miss not gossiping on the phone or at work
I miss not being able to say “thanks” for this and that
I hope you know

What do I miss?
I cannot ask you how your day went
I cannot share my day with you
I can manage a giggle
But no sound
I miss not being able to say “I love you” the most …

I cannot wait till my voice comes back
And then
I will
