Long Lost My Heart Poem by Dave Dunn

Long Lost My Heart

When did my troubled heart last open it's door
Easing your entry to it's welcoming glow
So many years past since such invasion
Crept stealthily in ere I could sense it show

The blend was changing so deep within
Taking such time to let me feel cheeks aglow
When your fair visage came once more into view
Take heed poor heart your defense did never know

Quietly healing from scars hidden thrice deep
My heart's rhythm alerting me very forceably
As I grew aware of it's then much firmer beat
Beats that pushed dark clouds away so wonderfully

Harsh mind trips then tried to intervene in fear
Of betrayals such as false love heralded afore
But resist did I still portents from a previous year
When a feckless lover I could just not implore

Oh to be entwined in sweet limbs of life such
As bring you close with that metronome of love
Attention now full on the driving forces in vein
Come place your hand in mine, your new glove

Discard those frail defenses that cared for so long
Open up your heart again, merge it fully with mine
Never to seek or need any more change of lover
But stay as one steadfast here for all time

Long lost my heart was in silent defense
Long lost the anguish of ruinous offense
Let's now lose such impairments once and for all
Let's drain out bad memories and together stand tall
