Lonesome George Poem by Ima Ryma

Lonesome George

Lonesome George was one of a kind,
Galapagos tortoise, the last.
Concerned humans happened to find.
Conservation role - George got cast.
For decades, humans tried to mate
George with a species relative.
All laid eggs met a no hatch fate.
George either could or would not give.
Two thousand twelve, Lonesome George died,
One hundred years old, give or take.
Much of that times humans had tried,
But watched failure in their match make.

Lonesome George is still a watched one,
Thanks to the taxidermy done.
