Lonely People Like Us... Poem by O. A.

Lonely People Like Us...

Lonely People Like Us...

A man or woman
Alone with their thoughts
Can get caught up
In wishing for things they bought
In wishing for fancy things others got
But lonely people like us...
Seem to forget the world is full of losers
Fortunate folks like to discuss...
Fortunate folks turn their nose up in disgust
Because they do not understand
What it is to be born from dust, nothingness
And brought out to face darkness without trust
In your fellow brethren, brother, and sister in love

Yes, lonely people like us...
Have one foot on the starting block
And one foot tied up without shoes, to use...
In a marathon footrace in the Olympics of our lives
Just trying to survive, just trying to run faster each time

Yes, lonely people like us...
Suffer from a deep, deep complex
So much so that suicide on a Friday night seems alright
As a choice for something to do, in a disturbing mood...
But little do we know, in these negative thoughts we are not alone
It just becomes time to pick up the phone, and call someone.

Yes, lonely people like us...
Figure that we might never be enough
For love beyond all comparison to be given directly to us
So we act out anytime we can to draw attention to the matter at hand
But little do we know, there's another concert after the show...
So we can perform again and again if we feel like the attention is slow.

Yes, lonely people like us...
Think we are so unique that people with this loneliness don't exist
And we are alone in feeling utterly useless, worthless, failing to thrive...
But the truth is, we're a dime a dozen, the world is full of lonely people like us...
Its just up to you and me to get out of our heads, and go down to the local bar
Or restaurant and meet up with other lonely people for a drink or bite to eat
And good conversation that warms the heart, and quells our pacing, anxious feet...

O.A.
