Life Is A Zoo Poem by Jon M. Nelson

Life Is A Zoo

I wonder who is going to clean this mess,
When they're done with all this monkey business.
And life is going to cut me no slack,
Unless I get this monkey off my back.

I'm not sure where this is going to go,
After they're done with this dog and pony show.
And more of this chaos will ensue of course,
Because they had to go and back the wrong horse.

Life keeps coming at me as strong as an ox,
And it always tends to be sly like a fox.
Just as I think I'm living high on the hog,
I end up getting bitten by the hair of the dog.

It wasn't easy for me to kick this habit,
Because life ran off scared like a rabbit.
But I now will be proud of who I am,
And I won't go in gentle as a lamb.

I put up a strong front and a battle was fought,
But life was like a leopard changing its spots.
And when I thought I was winning the fight,
It gave me a look like a deer in the headlights.

Somebody was going to end up getting scorned,
Because I had to take the bull by the horns.
I'm not about to give the fire more fuel,
When life is being stubborn as a mule.

And I'm not going to be so dumb,
As life is trying to play possum.
But while it is pretending to sleep,
I realize that I am the black sheep.

I feel like I'm going in blind as a bat,
But I don't want to go out like that.
In order for me to become a believer,
I'm going to have to stay busy as a beaver.

Life came in for one more sneak attack,
That's the straw that broke the camel's back.
Life beats me at the end of the day,
But wild horses couldn't drag me away.
