Let's Wait Til We Can Hug Poem by John Stetson

Let's Wait Til We Can Hug

Let's Wait Til We Can Hug
for David LaMotte
It's been too long
I haven't seen you since I can't remember when
Let's share a song, and have a memory to keep

We'll have to do it from a distance
Since I'm not within an arm's length of you now
But still we'll feel connection to each other
In a way that only lovers will know how

Now lovers come in many frames and flavors
Sonic or platonic, weary, bleary, and right now
But old friends know that special kind of magic
Not slight-of-hand but precious digitation
In a way that only lovers still know how

So in this time of social isolation
When I'm not standing close to you right now
Let's not rush, headlong to be together
And stand at arm's length with, but not somehow

Let's wait til we can hug
Cause that's what friends who're lovers really love

Let's wait til we can hug
Cause that's what friends who are lovers really love
