Lethal Music Poem by Willem VanVoorthuysen

Lethal Music

I parked my car on a lakeside lot, planning
to eat my lunch in peace, seated comfortably
on my driver's seat, with all my windows open,
and the radio softly playing Liszt sonatas...

While eating my tender roast beef sandwich,
I let your pictures, as in a lanternslideshow,
light up my memory screen, pretending to hear
the sweet things you would have whispered...

But then, a monstrous, black flat-back truck
parked next to me with its Diesels roaring,
and speakers booming a cacophony of sounds,
destroying my precious dream...

Arrgh!
