Leaves Are Falling Poem by J.M Berger

Leaves Are Falling

Awaken
to an Autumn sun
ascending
into a sky of orange

This sequence,
as it is etched into
our memories
is but one in an infinity

sad new emotions
the consequences of our actions
some things, oh
some things will haunt us forever

If you can't make peace with yourself
How could you ever make such great art?
Am I just wailing like a banshee...
Or do I really have something worth saying?

I've seen the light
And it's bright but cold
I've felt the chill...
Forgotten what I loved, grown old

Will the coming desolation
Be a blessing...
The winter in our hearts;
They were warm once
But we kept them all to ourselves
And the heat is long since gone, used up

Look out
To a view of suburban houses
And the gas station in the distance
See the trees sway
Lose your mind

We'll keep searching for the easy fix
We'll keep hiding from the big questions
Going from one thing to the next

Whatever's convenient
Whatever will keep us going
For one more day in the infinity
